In Japanee "SHI" means thumbs and fingers, "ATSU" means pressure. Shiatsu is characterized by a soothing and gentle deep pressure that is applied to various anatomical points on the body by the thumbs and palm of the hand.
The pressure is applied to about 700 effective points of the body that correspond to the muscles, bones, blood vessels, nerves, lymph vessels and glands of the endocrine system.
The type, degree and duration of pressure is then adjusted to meet the special needs of each area of the body and each individual.
Shiatsu is administered while clothes or covered, lying on a soft mattress on the floor, table or specially designed Shiatsu chair.
In Shiatsu, NO drugs, NO needles and NO mechanical devices are used. Its aim is to relax and balance one's health by stimulating the body's natural powers of recuperation. It is especially effective in removing the fatigue and anxiety caused by daily stresses and tensions of life.
